Our Condominium in Edificio Taman Condesa in La Condesa

We decided to splurge and branch out on our accommodations for this 2-week trip to Mexico City.  In our previous stays in Mexico, we have stayed in a variety of lodgings: in Oaxaca, we stayed in a boarding house (with a private bathroom); in Coyoacán, we stayed in a Mexican guest house; in El Centro Histórico, we stayed at a Mexican business hotel. This time, we rented a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condominium with a laundry room, complete with a small apartment-size washer-dryer on the 9th floor of a 14-story condominium building in La Condesa. The name of the condominium building was Taman Condesa; it is on the corner of Calle Alfonso Reyes & Calle Mazatlan. The views from our apartment were to die for, both day & night. I felt like I was living in a high-rise in New York City. The apartment building had a 24-hour staffed secure entrance, a concierge, a gym and lap pool, a room with toys & books for children, as well as a rooftop terrace & garden. At first, I felt like we were being too extravagant, but the amenities turned out to be really nice to have; they made the journey more restful, more relaxing, and more enjoyable. The nicest thing was having our own washer & dryer, instead of hauling our laundry to the nearest lavandería every 3-4 days. We had plenty of space for the both of us, and our computers, and weren't cramped into a hotel room for 13 days, as well as access to a pool and a gym (though with our 13,000-step average, we didn't really need any additional exercise).

The cost was not that much more than the business hotel that we stayed in El Centro Histórico during our last visit. The condominium cost $1438.50 USD for 13 days & 12 nights (which comes out to $119.88 USD per night).

The Taman Condesa is located in a beautiful old tree-lined neighborhood with wide streets with promenades down the middle. There were lots of sidewalk cafés and restaurants nearby, as well as plenty of stores & shopping. Since we had a refrigerator, we even went shopping at the local Soriana Híper Tacubaya, so that we had snacks & cold drinks on hand the entire time.

The Taman Condesa logo...my bet it is Aztec, though I never verified that for sure.

The pool guy cleaning the lap pool. It didn't get much use; mostly, I think because they aggressively enforced their policies of pre-swim showers & swim caps for EVERYONE, including males (like Nazis!). They would send someone over from Security to watch you shower & wear a cap. Pat & I had to share my cap because he didn't have one, which meant one of us swam while the other waited. Pat had just finished his laps, was out of the pool, took off the cap, & handed it to me to put on, when the guy from Security came around the corner. He accused Pat of swimming without a cap. We had to have the guard feel Pat's dry hair to prove he wore a cap. If that didn't put my Spanish to the test. That was the last time we used the lap pool.

Our Elevator Panel: Note: there are 15 floors (they superstitiously skip naming a Floor # 13). PB stands for Planta Baja (the ground floor); PH stands for Penthouse; & RG (which you can't see) stands for "Rooftop Garden...why they didn't consistently use the Spanish version for Penthouse & Rooftop Garden, I do not know (except that a lot of ex-pats & foreigners live & stay in La Condesa). The floors with the negative numbers (-1 through -6) belong to the parking garage. Piso # -1 is also where residents take their garbage. I was somewhere between intrigued and frightened (considering Mexico City's propensity for earthquakes) by the thought of a parking garage 6 floors deep below a 15-story high rise!

One day, after emptying our apartment garbage, I decided to take the elevator to the Piso # -6...to see what it looked like & to see if I could feel any difference in the pressure in my ears. You can see that I did, indeed, travel to the -6 floor. It was eerily quiet, but I didn't notice anything else unusual

Our living room...even with the blinds pulled, you can see what a beautiful view we had. We had cable & Mexican Netflix, thanks to the owner of the condominium. However, Mexican Netflix has different options than US Netflix. We tried to load our streaming platforms, like Hulu, Paramount+, & Apple TV +, but were unsuccessful. The TV appeared to be a Smart TV, but it would not accept our User ID's & passwords. I am not sure what the issue was with that.

Glad you stayed a nice place. Spacious surroundings and a view can make quite a difference.
